TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo celebrated the grand opening of the Dorothy and Georgianna Saloff Welcome Center, establishing a new “front door” for prospective students, campus visitors, and returning Rockets.

Located near the intersection of Bancroft Street and Campus Road, the $16 million facility expands Scott, Tucker, and Mackinnon Halls with a gothic stone-and-glass design.

The center is named in honor of the late alumnae and lifelong local educators Dorothy and Georgianna Saloff, whose historic bequest helped fund the project alongside state capital dollars.

“A promise that whoever walks through these doors next, whether it’s a first generation student, a military veteran, a kid from East Toledo who’s never stepped foot on a college campus,” said UToledo President James Holloway. “Whoever walks through these doors next will be seen, they will be seen the way that Dorothy and Georgianna saw every child in their classrooms. With warmth, with high expectations, and with the belief that they are capable of something remarkable.”

The new facility serves as a one-stop hub for student support services, bringing together Rocket Solution Central, financial aid, registration, academic advising, and the Military Service Center under one roof.

For interior designer and university alumna Emily Holman, working on the facility held personal significance.

“It was such a great experience to come back as an alumni, and be able to create a building where I used to call this place home,” Holman said.
