What made you choose the University of Toledo? The communication department and the unique partnership the college has with ESPN made me fall in love with it. The experiences I have had in my 2 years here have proved it tenfold as it has been very helpful to what I can do in the future beyond my time here at the University of Toledo.
Student organizations, clubs, campus activity involvement: WXUT as a board operator and a sports broadcaster and Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity (running the social media page (Instagram), VP of Finance during 2025-2026 and VP of Ritual and Traditions currently).
If you could spend a day working at any TV station or media company, where would it be? ESPN. It is my dream company due to its involvements in NFL, NBA, and WWE. As a man who has been HEAVILY involved in sports since I was 6 years old, working here would be a dream. Whether as a sports broadcaster or a camera operator.
Cats or dogs? Dogs. I had a dog as a kid growing up and have always been around dogs due to friends, family and neighbors.
Coffee or tea? Neither. I don’t drink or like any of those products as I personally don’t find it necessary.
Favorite social media app: Instagram. I have a personal page and I do like adding stuff. I also run my own page for my radio show for WXUT which I take very seriously, posting to it weekly for anyone who listens to my show and/or follows the page. I also help run my fraternities Instagram page, which is taken seriously as well.
ChatGPT or Google Gemini? Although I don’t like and use AI, I’d have to go with ChatGPT just because I’d probably finding myself using it more than Gemini.
If you could interview or cover one person or event, who or what would it be, and why? Seth Rollins (aka Colby Lopez). Seth has been a professional wrestler in the WWE for well over a decade, but has also started to branch into the journalism side of things with hosting the Rich Eisen show and making regular appearances on Good Morning Football as a host/journalist. With experience on both sides, he would be a great person to interview to cover his journey into sports journalism and also his wrestling/sport experience in WWE.

What made you choose the University of Toledo? It is close to home, and it offers exclusive opportunities, such as the live sports production class and access to numerous cameras and advanced software.
Student organizations, clubs, campus activity involvement: I am not involved in any student organizations but am a football coach and the fitness/strength coordinator for Ottawa Hills High School.
If you could spend a day working at any TV station or media company, where would it be? I would work at ESPN. I have always loved sports and have grown up watching ESPN expand and grow.
Cats or dogs? Dogs, but cats are always welcome.
Coffee or tea? Neither if given a third option, but coffee given the choices.
Favorite social media app: X; people are very active and express their opinions very freely on the platform.
ChatGPT or Google Gemini? I prefer not to use AI, but I was around for the first iteration of ChatGPT in high school.
If you could interview or cover one person or event, who or what would it be, and why? I would interview Ian Book; he is my all-time favorite Notre Dame QB, and I’ve always been curious as to why he went all the way from California to South Bend, Indiana as a high school senior and why he loves Notre Dame.

If you could spend a day working at any TV station or media company, where would it be? My dream company would be to work with Netflix, creating and directing my own shows.

What made you choose the University of Toledo? I decided to attend the University of Toledo because I wanted to be close to home and be near friends and family. I also heard the University had a great communications program.
Student organizations, clubs, campus activity involvement: I served as President of the University of Toledo tennis club during the 2025-2026 school year, and I continue as an active member. I am also a WXUT member and have a radio show every Sunday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. with Cameron Fahnestock, Jacob Henry, and Tremaine Bailey.
If you could spend a day working at any TV station or media company, where would it be? If I could spend a day working at any media company, I would choose ESPN. I grew up loving and watching many different sports and still do to this day. ESPN is a household name in sports media, and being part of that organization would be a dream come true.
Cats or dogs? I love both cats and dogs equally. I grew up with a dog, but I now live with 2 cats.
Coffee or tea? I am definitely more of a coffee drinker. I enjoy tea from time to time, but a good coffee hits differently.
Favorite social media app: My favorite social media app is Instagram. I enjoy TikTok quite a bit, but with the recent addition of Instagram Reels, I like Instagram a bit more. I like the variation in content that Instagram provides. Being able to see short-form video, long-form video, and photographs all on the same platform is convenient.
ChatGPT or Google Gemini? Between the two, ChatGPT, but I use Claude the most.
If you could interview or cover one person or event, who or what would it be, and why? If I could interview one person, it would be Roger Federer. I am a huge tennis fan, and Federer is, in my opinion, the best tennis player of all time.

Mark Mackowiak is a junior at the University of Toledo, studying Media Communication with a minor in Marketing. He has aspirations to be a sports talk show host when he graduates from college. Mark is involved with WXUT, where he serves as the sports director, a co-host of Running Our Mouths, and as a sports commentator on the radio. Mark also serves as the VP of Recruitment for the campus chapter of PRSSA. He is also the in-game host for UToledo volleyball games. Outside of school, Mark loves to watch sports with friends, play tennis, and watch movies. Mark began his journey with directing and technical directing in Fall of 2025, when he took Live Studio Production and directed/produced 3 live productions. He is excited to work behind the scenes of RNN and can’t wait to watch it grow.
